BRIEF NOTES
Cincinnati Jazz Collection Volume I
Jazz has been an integral part of Cincinnati's heritage since its early stages. You see, Cincinnati has always been blessed with a music-loving population. Coupled with that is the strategic location of the Queen City in a crossroads position of the American Heartland. Jazz bands travelling to Chicago and Detroit passed through Cincy, as did those going from Kansas City and points west to the Mecca of Jazz - New York City. As a consequence, even if Cincinnatians had wanted to, they would not have been able to ignore this wonderful music - especially with the bands stopping to play, regroup, to recruit or simply to disband.
In the Queen City, jazz continues unabated to the present day, as attested by this modest sampling of the Cincy sound, so to speak. The folks on this recording quite literally continue in the excellent tradition of their predecessors.
-William Lawless Jones, local jazz historian (from the liner notes)
This CD is dedicated to Father John Heim, Executive Director of the Xavier Piano and Guitar Series, which he has overseen for more than sixteen years. In his honor, a portion of the proceeds from the sales of this project will be donated to the Xavier Piano and Jazz Series.
